Abstract

The plants belong to the genus Sabia distribute widely in China, and they can be divided into ca. 16 species, 5 subspecies, and 2 varieties. A variety of Sabia plants have been recorded in different medicinal literatures. The chemical constituents of this genus contain pentacyclic triterpenes, alkaloids, flavonoids, phenylpropanoids, other benzene derivatives, fatty acids and alkanes, which exhibit multiple functions such as liver/kidney-protective, blood sugar/lipid-lowering, treating rheumatoid arthritis, analgesic, anti-influenza virus, and oxytocic effects. In this paper, 230 compounds reported in recent 30 years and their pharmacological activities are reviewed, and the purpose is to provide a scientific basis for further research, development and utilization of this genus.
